Becoming a Best Employer
Based on the data collected in our Best Employers studies, Hewitt’s ongoing research into people management shows that successful companies know the value people can bring to the organization. Successful companies invest appropriately in their talent and measure the impact of their investments on the bottom line. These organizations create an environment that enables employee engagement and produces extraordinary results.
Hewitt’s global Best Employers research guides organizations in creating this advantage. In particular, the Best Employers research provides a framework for what makes a best employer, what motivates employees, and how Best Employers sustain their business in a challenging and competitive environment.
Creating Competitive Advantage
Hewitt has been conducting Best Employers studies around the world for over five years in more than 20 countries. Our research shows that Best Employers enjoy a bigger pool of talent from which to select employees, lower employee turnover, lower absenteeism rate, increased customer satisfaction, higher economic returns, and greater sustainability in the face of business challenge.
Notably, Best Employers excel at making employees feel connected to the business. They communicate with employees about the organization's goals. They align people with the business through performance management and aggressive career development. And they link pay with performance of the individual and the company.
Employees at Best Employers express a high degree of trust and confidence in company leadership. And Best Employers are better positioned to take advantage of business opportunities and weather business cycles effectively.

The Benefits of Participating in a Study
The benefits of participating in the Best Employers studies include:
- Benchmarking of employee feedback and your people practices against the Best. The benchmarking exercise will allow you to see where you are in your journey to becoming or continuing to be a Best Employer.
- Receiving a complimentary participant report, which will include the country/market results and some company specific results. You will obtain valuable insight into what you need to do to become or sustain your status as a Best Employer.
- Being publicly recognized in prestigious business journals and magazines, and/or on TV and radio stations if your organization makes the Best Employers list. In some countries, your organization will also be recognized at an awards ceremony.
Participating in a Study
There is usually no charge for participation in a Best Employer study. Typically, an independent panel of judges comprised of academicians, local business leaders and executives, and HR professionals selects the Best Employers. All participating organizations receive complimentary reports that summarize the study findings and provide benchmarking information, local trends, and regional trends. Participating organizations will also have an option to purchase additional data reports and analyses.
Organizations participating in the studies typically must:
- Conduct an employee survey to a random sample of employees.
- Complete a detailed survey of the organization's people practices.
- Complete a CEO Survey by the company's chief executive or appropriate senior leader.
- Provide other important information about the company's performance and practices.
- Participate in an audit of their study input if requested by Hewitt or the independent judging panels
