Out-of-province

Most hospital and medical care services. Claims paid at the standard rates of the province/territory where services were obtained.

Cost of emergency in-patient / out-patient hospital while outside of Canada

Emergency Hospital Services - Limited coverage for emergency medical care from approved general hospitals outside Canada if the same services would be covered in Saskatchewan. Payment up to $100 per day for inpatient services; Payment up to $50 for an outpatient hospital visit; Saskatchewan Health will not pay for more than two out-patient visits in any one day.

WHAT IS COVERED

Physician Services

Medically required services associated with physician and diagnostic services and hospital in-and-out patient care

Eye Examinations

Coverage for those under 18 years of age or in receipt of a Saskatchewan Income Plan supplement or receive benefits under the Supplementary Health Program or Family Health Benefits:

  • Routine eye examinations (limited to one per 24-month period if between 18 and 64 years or one per 12-month period if any other age)
  • Partial eye examinations (except when optometrist provides service within 90 days of a routine eye examination)

Dental

Certain medically necessary surgical-dental procedures which are performed in hospital by a dentist or oral surgeon

Hospital

Standard ward hospitalization in an approved hospital and in-patient services such as:

  • Physiotherapy and occupational therapy provided in hospital and other approved facilities

PARAMEDICAL SERVICES

Physiotherapy Services

Physiotherapy services provided through hospitals, special care homes, community agencies or by private clinics in Saskatchewan that have a contract with the health districts

Chiropractic Care

Plan pays:

  • $15.00 for initial visit
  • $11.30 for subsequent visits
  • $25.00 for emergency visits
  • Unlimited number of visits per year

Patient pays:

  • $20.00 for initial visit
  • $14.00 for subsequent visits
  • $25.00 for emergency visits

Osteopath

Drug

Saskatchewan Drug Program Plan provides benefits to eligible Saskatchewan residents for certain drugs prescribed outside Saskatchewan hospitals.
Special support is available when drug costs exceed 3.4% of family income Residents qualifying for the GIS and Saskatchewan Income Plan (SIP) in Saskatchewan also receive the following benefits:

GIS recipients:

  • If living in the community, the semi-annual deductible is $200 for prescription drugs with a 35 per cent co-payment thereafter
  • If residing in a special care home, the semi-annual deductible is $100 for prescription drugs with a 35 per cent co-payment thereafter
  • Residents may be eligible for additional drug coverage through the Special Support Program

SIP recipients:

  • $100 semi-annual deductible for prescription drugs; 35 per cent consumer co-payment thereafter.

Seniors' Drug Plan
Effective July 1, 2007

  • Available to all Saskatchewan residents age 65 and over
  • Seniors pay no more than $15 per prescription for drugs listed in the Saskatchewan Formulary, including approved drugs under Exception Drug Status
